What Are the Functions of PIM Silent on a PIM Interface?
On the access layer, if the interface directly connected to a host is enabled with the PIM
protocol, PIM neighbors can be established on this interface to process various PIM protocol
packets. Such configuration, however, may bring security problems. For example, when
malicious hosts send a large number of pseudo PIM Hello packets, it may lead to the collapse
of the device.
To avoid the preceding problem, you can run the pim silent command on the interface to set
the interface to work in PIM silent state. After the interface enters the PIM silent state, it is
forbidden to receive or forward any PIM protocol packet. All PIM neighbors and the PIM
state machine on this interface are deleted and the interface automatically becomes a DR.
Meanwhile, the PIM silent function does not affect the IGMP function on the interface.
The PIM silent function is applicable only to the interface that is directly connected to the
network segment of user hosts, and only one PIM device can be connected to this network
segment.
When a Host Leaves a Group, How Does an IGMP Querier Judge Whether Any Other Members of the Group Exist on the Network Segment?
In IGMPv1, when a host leaves a multicast group, the host does not send any message. A
device considers that all multicast members have left a group when the timer of the group
expires.
In IGMPv2 and IGMPv3, a host sends a Leave message when leaving a group. After
receiving the Leave message, the querier sends a group-specific or source/group-specific
Query message to the network segment of the host. The destination address of the Query
message is the address of the multicast group and the group address in the message is also
filled in with the address of the multicast group.
If other members of the group exist on the network segment, they respond with Report
messages.
If no response is received when the timeout period ends, the querier considers that no
member of the group exists on the network segment and cancels forwarding multicast
data to the group.
Can the Hosts and Devices on the Same User Network Segment Run Different Versions of IGMP?
IGMP has three versions, namely IGMPv1, IGMPv2, and IGMPv3. Different IGMP versions
run on devices and hosts are compatible, but all the devices on the same network segment
must run IGMP of the same version. If the versions of IGMP run on the devices on the same
network segment are different, IGMP member relationships are chaotic.
Run the display igmp interface interface-type interface-number command on all the devices
on the same network segment to check the versions of IGMP run on the devices. If the
versions are not the same, modify the configuration.

Creating a VLANIF Interface
VLANIF interfaces are Layer 3 logical interfaces. After creating VLANIF interfaces on Layer 2 devices, you can configure Layer 3 features on these interfaces.
Establishing the Configuration Task
Before creating a VLANIF interface, familiarize yourself with the applicable environment, complete the pre-configuration tasks, and obtain the data required for the configuration. This will help you complete the configuration task quickly and accurately.
Applicable Environment
Layer 3 switching combines routing and switching techniques to implement routing on a switch, thus improving the overall network performance. After sending the first data flow, a Layer 3 switch generates mappings between MAC addresses and IP addresses. To send the same data flow, the switch directly sends the data flow at Layer 2 but not Layer 3 based on this mapping table.
To allow that new data flows are correctly forwarded based on the routing table, be sure that the routing table's routing entries are correct. Therefore, VLANIF interfaces and routing protocols must be configured on Layer 3 switches for reachable Layer 3 routes.
Pre-configuration Tasks
Before creating a VLANIF interface, complete the following task:

Data Preparation
To create a VLANIF interface, you need to the following data.

Creating a VLANIF Interface
Before configure Layer 3 features on a Layer 2 device, you must create a VLANIF interface on the device.
Procedure
1. Run:
system-view
The system view is displayed.
2. Run:
interface vlanif vlan-id
A VLANIF interface is created and the VLAIF interface view is displayed.
The VLAN ID specified in this command must be the ID of an existing VLAN.

A VLANIF interface is Up only when at least one physical port added to the corresponding VLAN is Up.

Assigning an IP Address to a VLANIF Interface
As a VLANIF interface is a Layer 3 logical interface, it can communicate with other interfaces at the network layer only after being assigned an IP address.
Procedure
1. Run:
system-view
The system view is displayed.
2. Run:
interface vlanif vlan-id
The VLANIF interface view is displayed.
The VLAN ID specified in this command must be the ID of an existing VLAN.
3. Run:
ip address ip-address { mask | mask-length } [ sub ]
An IP address is assigned to the VLANIF interface for communication at the network layer.
Checking the Configuration
After a VLANIF interface is configured for communication at the network layer, you can check the IP address and status of a specified VLANIF interface.
Prerequisites
The configurations of a VLANIF interface are complete.
Procedure
· Run the display interface vlanif [ vlan-id ] command to check the physical status, link protocol status, description, and IP address of the VLANIF interface.

How to Restore Factory Default S5700-24TP-PWR-SI via BOOTMODE
Question:
“How to Restore Factory Default S5700-24TP-PWR-SI via BOOTMODE
I have problem to go back to default configuration from BIOS mode, because I forget the username & password
I have entered the BOOT menu but I don’t see “Reset Console Password” menu, here is the menu
BOOTROM MENU
1. Boot with default mode
2. Enter serial submenu
3. Enter startup submenu
4. Enter ethernet submenu
5. Enter filesystem submenu
6. Modify BOOTROM password
7. Reboot

I have done CHANGING the startup submenu too, but the RESULT its still the same…”
Suggestion;
Try booting with default mode (option 1) — by selecting this option your device will boot the default configuration file, thus no console password will be set

How Can I Identify a Combo Port on Huawei S5700? I use the switch S5700-28P-LI-AC most time.
You can use the following methods to identify a combo port on a switch:
1. Identify a combo port based on the interface identifier on the switch panel. If two ports
have the same ID but connects to different transmission media, the two ports are
multiplexed as a combo port.
2. Run the display interface command to display the combo port.

First, you should know: Configure the Ethernet interface rate in auto negotiation or non self negotiation two modes:

3 The Command: undo negotiation auto, configure the Ethernet interface in non auto negotiation mode.
4 The command: speed {10 | 100 | 1000}, configure the speed of interface Ethernet interface. (FE electric interface does not support 1000 this parameter)
By default, the maximum rate of Ethernet interface interface is interface support rate.
